Admission Requirements

The Ethos of our Society is to promote professionalism and health and safety practices to our members who are practising Chinese or Oriental therapies. Members must agree to adhere to the society’s code of safe practice and ethical conduct, disciplinary and complaints procedures, CPD, first aid, practitioner local authority licensing, advertising standards, data protection and insurance requirements.

Our members practice different forms of Acupuncture, Chinese Medicine, Oriental Massage and auxiliary techniques.

Some Traditional Acupuncturists also practice Chinese Herbal Medicine and some Herbal practitioners do not practice Acupuncture or may also practice Tuina or Acupressure.

We also have a variety of Oriental massage members these include Acupressure, Tuina, Korean Hand, Meridian Stretch, Oriental, Thai, and Japanese.

Many of our practitioners also use Moxibustion, Cupping, Electro stimulation, Herbal Balms and Poultice and Gua Sha

As our members are multi-disciplined training requirements vary and are specific to each discipline

All our members have infection control and prevention components to thier original courses and must be at minimum level 3 in anatomy and physiology, except for Auricular Detox practitioners who have a specialised limited scope of practice

Admission Requirement Standards

All members must meet the entrance requirement standards set out by the Acupuncture Society

Degree Level Acupuncture Practitioners

2 – 5 years training with a minimum level 3 A&P with TCM Theory, and Trained at Vocational Degree Level 5 equivalent or more with TCM Diagnostic assessment

Traditional Chinese Acupuncture:

Traditional Acupuncture – 2 – 5 years training with a minimum level 3 A&P with TCM Theory and Trained at Vocational Degree Level 5 equivalent  or more with TCM Diagnostic assessment

Traditional Herbalists – 2 – 5 years training with a minimum level 3 A&P with TCM Theory,  and Trained at Vocational Degree Level 5 equivalent or more with Knowledge of Individual and Classical Herbal prescriptions and TCM Diagnostic assessment

Traditional Chinese Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine: 2 – 5 years training with a minimum level 3 A&P with TCM Theory, and Trained at Vocational Degree Level 5 equivalent  or more with Knowledge of Individual and Classical Herbal prescriptions and TCM Diagnostic assessment

Traditional Chinese or Oriental TCM Doctors Trained in China, Vietnam, Korea,  Japan etc: 2 – 5 years training with a minimum level 3 A&P with TCM Theory, and Trained at Vocational Degree Level 5 equivalent  or more with Knowledge of Individual and Classical Herbal prescriptions and TCM Diagnostic assessment

Auricular Detox – 4 in-class with 4 home study days of specialised training with skill assessment, open to detox, prison service, stress management and psychology workers.

Auricular Pain – 8 in-class with 8 home study days specialised training with skill assessment, must be a bodyworker, therapist or acupuncturist with level 3 A&P.

Auricular Health – 6 months training and 100 hours home study with skill assessment, must be a bodywork or therapist with level 3 A&P

Specific Use Acupuncture:

Orthopaedic/Musculoskeletal Certificate– 6-month training and 100 hours home study with examination and skill assessment, bodyworkers, physiotherapists, osteopaths or acupuncturists, level 3 A&P

Spinal Acupuncture Certificate – with examination and skill assessment, for bodyworkers, physiotherapists, osteopaths or acupuncturists, minimum level 3 A&P

Medical Acupuncture with examination and skill assessment, for bodyworkers, physiotherapists, osteopaths or acupuncturists, minimum level 3 A&P

Dry Needling with examination and skill assessment, for bodyworkers, physiotherapists, osteopaths or acupuncturists, minimum level 3 A&P

Cosmetic for Beauticians Certificate –  with examination and skill assessment, level 2 anatomy and beautician with thread vein training – traditional acupuncture, auricular diploma, state-registered health professional

Korean hand Acupuncture Certificate – must be minimum a bodywork therapist with level 3 A&P and TCM Theory

Chinese and Oriental Massage Therapists:

Acupressure Massage – must be a bodywork therapist with level 3 A&P

Korean Hand Massage – must be a bodywork therapist with level 3 A&P

Tuina Massage – must be a bodywork therapist with level 3 A&P

Thai Massage – must be a bodywork therapist with level 3 A&P

Japanese Massage – must be a bodywork therapist with level 3 A&P

Oriental Massage – must be a bodywork therapist with level 3 A&P

Meridian Stretch Massage – must be a bodywork therapist with level 3 A&P

Auxiliary Therapies:

Body Cupping – must be a bodywork therapist with level 3 A&P

Moxa- must be a bodywork therapist with level 3 A&P
